About the Kennett Symphony

WE PERFORM

  • Comprised of professional orchestral musicians from Pennsylvania, Delaware, New York, Maryland and New Jersey, the Kennett Symphony is the only professional symphony orchestra in Chester County, Pennsylvania. We offer a first-class robust concert series throughout the year.
  • We’re in our 79th year of operation – established 1940. We will celebrate our 80th season starting in October 2020.
  • The Kennett Symphony provides the musical landscape of an historic region renowned for the arts. All ages who want music to enrich their lives are given the opportunity to experience the world of music through a fresh approach to classical and contemporary symphonic works. Our inclusive and engaging environment allows all to share in the uplifting experience of quality live music in an approachable and affordable way.
  • We serve 5,000 audience members each season.

WE ENGAGE

  • We collaborate with arts and business organizations that share our interest in presenting symphonic music in unique and exciting ways.  For example, we have worked with:
    • David Kim, Concertmaster of The Philadelphia Orchestra
    • Philadelphia Orchestra Percussion Group
    • The Curtis Institute of Music, Philadelphia, PA
    • Academy of Vocal Arts, Philadelphia, PA
    • Philadanco, Philadelphia, PA
    • Academy of Vocal Arts, Philadelphia, PA
    • Arts & Business Council of Greater Philadelphia
  • We are committed to bringing the art of music to all. We add to the offerings in our community by presenting events that engage audiences in a way that suits their interests including our annual Beat Beethoven 5k run, Classics At Brantwyn, and other special events.  Our office space on State Street in vibrant downtown Kennett Square gives us regular visibility and the opportunity to meet with all who visit during our town’s celebrations – Art Strolls, First Fridays, Third Thursdays, and more.

WE EDUCATE & ENRICH

  • We are committed to our educational programs in the region including our partnership with West Chester Area School District, competitions for young artists, and the Kennett Symphony Children’s Chorus comprised of nearly 100 student vocalists. Our newest program – Reimagined Symphony Experience – breaks down the barriers between audience and orchestra by presenting our orchestra in a unique way.  Seated in the round in the middle of a large, open space, the orchestra presents a relaxed, one-hour performance that includes food and drink throughout the performance.
